The lynch-mob. eh?

According to a quote by a BBC article on blogs, Steve Lovelady, an editor of the Columbia Journalism Review, called bloggers: “The salivating morons who make up the lynch mob”

For a second after reading it, I wondered why Lovelady had made a comment on journalists in a article that was supposed to be about bloggers. Stupid really, I know, of course Lovelady was talking about bloggers. Honestly, though, I really think that the comment has a more truthful toll when applied to journalists instead of bloggers.

How many times has the MSM gone on a lynch of politicians, performers, or even every day people over a comment they made?

With Eason Jordan, if bloggers were lynchers, than what has the media been all these years? Unbiased journalists after truth? Not really. Takes one to know one, Steve.

Another cute sentiment that I found interesting in the article was a comment made by Bill Press was that bloggers have “no credentials, no sources, no rules, no editors and no accountability.”

Really, Mr Press. Where were all those sources, editors, and that oh-so-elusive accountability when Jason Blair was doing his thing? What about with Memogate? Bloggers may be their own editors, but they seem to be doing a better job than the MSM. Maybe if the majority of journalists actually used their credentials, sources, rules, editors, and accountability to actually tell the truth– Bill Press might have a point. Until then, I’m content to just point and laugh.

Oh, and thanks to Will Collier for the link to the BBC article. And another big thanks for the wonderful comments quoted within it.
